About blackmailers and blackmailers in occupied Krakow

During the meeting, the speaker will briefly discuss the specifics of the activities of blackmailers and szmalcowniks in occupied Krakow. It will refer to the atmosphere prevailing in Krakow, and therefore the reactions of local authorities, the underground and the community. Selected stories of blackmailers and their victims, as well as an analysis of their attitudes and behaviors will be the reference point.

Dr Alicja Jarkowska - historian, employee of the Institute of History of the Jagiellonian University (Department of Contemporary Polish History). Co-editor of two volumes of the Ringelblum Archive. The underground archive of the Warsaw Ghetto, author of the monograph Wymuszona współpraca czy zdrada? Wokół kolaboracji Żydów w okupowanym Krakowie/ Forced Cooperation or Betrayal? On the collaboration of Jews in occupied Krakow (Universitas 2018) and many articles on the topic of Extermination of Jews, collaboration, common crime during World War II. Winner of the first prize in the prof. Tomasz Strzembosz for the best book in 2019 on the contemporary history of Poland, finalist of the POLITYKA 2019 Scientific Award. Scholarship holder of the Claims Conference, Fondation pour la Mémoire de la Shoah, National Science Center. He continues research on the history of Jews in Krakow.
