On May 18, at 7:30 pm (polish time), Prof. Barbara Engelking will receive an honorary doctorate from Tel Aviv University awarded to her in 2021. Online streaming
We are very proud to share with you the news that Prof. Barbara Engelking has been awarded an honorary doctorate from Tel Aviv University. The awarding ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 18 at 8:30 pm (7:30 pm Polish time) and can be followed online. Barbara Engelking will receive the HC doctorate together with, among others, Noble Prize winner, polish writer Olga Tokarczuk
Tel Aviv University awarded Prof. Engelking an honorary doctorate in December 2021. Due to health reasons she was unable to receive it during last year's ceremony . The justification reads that the university's senate, with the honorary doctorate, recognized Prof. Engelking's pioneering contribution to Holocaust research, her determination and courage in fighting the distortion of the memory of the historical event, and in revealing the complexity of the relationship that existed between Poles and Jews during World War II, despite the high personal price she paid for it. Her research reveals the cruelty of the Holocaust and deepens the public's awareness of past events. The professor's contribution to the training of the younger generation of Holocaust scholars and her cordial relationship with Israeli institutions such as Yad Vashem, the Institute for the Remembrance of Holocaust Martyrs and Heroes, where she has been a researcher on four occasions, were also recognized.
In June, Prof. Engelking will receive an honorary doctorate from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem.
