Jan Błoński, who was 78, died on Sunday February 10, 2009 in Cracow. He was very famous historian, literary critic, translator and university teacher.
Jan Błoński was born in 1931 in Warsaw. He graduated from Jagieloński University in 1952. The professor worked for the Polish Academy of Sciences and Jagieloński University. He is said to be one of the biggest reformer of Polish development of literature, literature criticism and promotion of Polish literature abroad. Moreover Professor Błoński is famous for writing fantastic works about: Mikołaj Sęp-Sarzyński, Witold Gombrowicz, Sławomir Mrożek or Czesław Miłosz. He wrote many esteemed historical volumes like: “Romance with a text”or “The changing of the guard”. The professor was columnist of “Przkrój”, “Tygodnik Powszechny” or “Teksty Drugie”.
