The Center:
To emphasize the importance of the problem of the Holocaust and genocide prof. Henryk Domański, Director of the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Polish Academy of Science on July 2nd, 2003 created the Polish Center for Holocaust Research. The main goal of the Center is to create an interdisciplinary (historical, sociological, psychological, anthropological, literature and art) environment for researchers working on the Holocaust.
Main goals:
- Conducting scientific research;
- editing books;
- organizing seminars and conference;
- cooperation with other institutions working in the same area; receiving exchange scholars.
- Educational activities – seminars and lectures at the university level;
- cooperation with educational institutions interested in Holocaust education in Poland and abroad.
Members of the Center:
Professor Barbara Engelking - (Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Polish Academy of Science), psychologist, shall lead the Center. Prof. Engelking-Boni has been involved in the study of the Holocaust for 15 years. She is the author of several books, (among them - together with Jacek Leociak- “The Warsaw Ghetto. A Guide to the Non-Existing City”); for several years she gave seminars and lectures concerning the everyday life in the Warsaw Ghetto.
Professor Jacek Leociak, PhD. - historian of literature, (Institute of Literary Research, Polish Academy of Science), for several years engaged in the problem of Shoah and genocide with anthropological approach, author of some books on the Holocaust experience and (together with Barbara Engelking) The Warsaw Ghetto. A Guide to the Non-Existing City”.
Associate Professor Dariusz Libionka, PhD. - historian (State Museum of Majdanek, Polish Academy of Science) working on Catholic Church attitude towards Jews before and during the war and still working on the Holocaust in the Lublin District.
Marta Janczewska,M.A. - literature historian (Jewish Historical Institute) finishing her Ph.D. thesis on death in the Warsaw Ghetto.
Alina Skibińska, M.A. - historian, (US Holocaust Memorial Museum, Center for Advanced Holocaust Studies, International Archival Programs Division), working on archival sources in Poland.

Jakub Petelewicz, M.A. - (Institute of Philosophy and Sociology, Polish Academy of Science), historian, academic secretary of the Center, managing editor of "Zaglada Zydow. Studia i Materialy"/Holocaust Studies and Materials. Director of Education in Forum for Dialogue Foundation.

Associate Professor Małgorzata Melchior, PhD.- sociologist (Institute of Applied Social Sciences, Warsaw University), working on modern Jewish identity and on Jews passing as non-Jews (Aryan papers) during the WWII.
Professor Andrzej Żbikowski, PhD. - historian, (Jewish Historical Institute), editor of Ringelblum’s archives (vol.III), for several years working on the Jewish fate in the eastern part of pre-war Poland.
Associate Professor Monika Polit, PhD - literature historian (Jewish Historical Institute) working on Lodz Ghetto Chronicle and related documents, a tutor of Yiddish.
